Ride the Range @ V Bar Ranch !!

Orville and Elin Rusher (Elin on rightwith cowboy hat)

The owners of the V Bar Ranch invite a fortunate few to actively participate in an authentic Western experience at their mountain ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Range of Colorado.

Ride the range, inspecting up to 800 head of cattle, mending fences and checking water supplies, all while learning the "ins and outs" of running a major ranching operation. Our Valley, nestled between the wooded Wet Mountains on the East and the majestic Sangre de Cristo's to the West, 150 miles SouthWest of Denver, Colorado, provides a venue that is both unspoiled and unmatched.

Ride rugged ranch land on well trained and conditioned Quarter horses, doing real and necessary ranch duties, all the while keeping a watchful eye for a heard of antelope or a hungry coyote looking for its next meal.

You'll have the opportunity to ride two distinct ranches; the dramatically beautiful Music Meadows Ranch at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo's and the ruggedly picturesque Dead Mule Gulch Ranch in lower canyon country.

A lucky few will even have the opportunity to participate in the Autumn cattle round-up. (It's truly a unique experience to "bring in the cattle and ship them out"!

After a full morning of riding the range and working the cattle, tie up the horses, stretch your legs and enjoy a much earned lunch in a quiet Aspen grove along a crystal-clear mountain stream.

At nearly 10,000 feet, with no other humans (except for a "crew" of no more than four) within miles, the air is clear and clean, the weather ideal (usually), the silence overwhelming and the views spectacular.

Your host and "trail boss" is Elin Rusher, a rancher since birth and a graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in Animal Science.
